Kalakar is an AI-powered captioning platform built specifically for South Asian creators and editors. It generates captions across major Desi languages and combines customizable templates, professional exports, and editing workflows in one product. The platform says it is trusted by 100,000+ users.
Project overview
Most captioning tools were built for Western audiences first. Kalakar set out to change that — building a product around the languages, workflows, and everyday problems of Desi editors and creators. My role was to help translate that idea into a digital experience that feels fast, modern, creator-first, and easy to understand — from discovering the product to understanding its features and starting your first project.
Designing the system
The design needed to communicate a fairly powerful product without making it feel complicated. I worked around clear product storytelling, strong visual hierarchy, feature-led sections, interactions, and reusable design patterns — showcasing everything from multilingual captioning and customizable templates to SRT/alpha-channel exports and integrations with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. The goal was simple: show the power, without showing the complexity.
The outcome.
The result is a digital experience that feels native to the creator community Kalakar was built for — energetic, functional, and distinctly Desi. Today, the website positions Kalakar around a simple idea: Made by Desi creators. For Desi creators.
